Frank Gruber

Metromixlogo_1The has launched a new "edgy" national site under the Metromix brand. is a well known Chicago entertainment website brand but now its going "national" with local flavor and a sharper edge  and voice with the launch of site for and site.

I was fortunate enough to be on the strategic planning committee for this project at which has been going on since November of 2004. I worked primarily on the music strategy as well as lent my technology expertise in every possible way I could throughout the duration of the project. So I am happy to finally be able mention the project publicly.

The site offers a number of entertainment categories which include , , & , , and . Additionally, the new entertainment site offers of , and movies. The site also offers user posted comments and commentary on just about every article.  I am hopeful the site is a success since it was such a magnificent team effort at Tribune. So what do you think about the new edgy entertainment site?

I have a paper in a Tribune market (Allentown, PA) and their attempt at a "hip" (cuz we all know daily papers are NOT hip or edgy) sucks. But I'll give them this it looks much better than any Metromix site I saw. Those sites are awful.

Whoa there Tom -- so you like the new sites but you're not a fan of Metromix? I use Metromix alot to see what's happening so give them a break. The new sites are even better than Metromix -- which was your point exactly. Is any media really "hip" or "edgy" today?

I don't like the metromix sites either, they pretty much suck.

Thanks Doug,

I appreciate your candid opinion and feedback. I was just surprised to see your comments were posted from an IP of a computer within the Tribune Company network ... now that is gutsy my friend! However, everyone has a right and freedom to hold their own opinion ... freedom of speech.

Cheers,
Frank
