Technorati released a new type of blog search on its site blog search engine site by releasing a beta called Blog Finder today. This new search allows users to search for blogs by topic based on the use of Technorati tags. It then returns the most authoritative blogs in each of those areas which uses some sort of ranking system based on Technorati tags to determine a blogs authority rank. I noticed that Somewhat Frank was ranking in the following Technorati tag categories tagged categories:
Technorati
Education
Weblogs
Web/Tech
Technology
Business
Blogs
Fun
Google
SEO
Search
Technologies
Cellular
Learning
Freedom
Other Aspects Of Life
Somewhat Frank ranked in the top 20 most authoritative blogs in the areas of:
SEO
Technologies
Technorati
Cellular
Learning
Freedom
Other Aspects Of Life
Blog Finder not only allows you to look at the most authoritative blogs it also allows you the ability to sort of blog results on most recently posted and alphabetically in each Technorati Tag area or category. I just wonder how Technorati went about tagging each blog. I could definitely see it as a way to make blogger use Technorati tags rather then Ice Rocket or other offerings. For example in the past I know I have to have some of the most blog posts on the topic of “Splog” or “Splog Reporter” and I even tag for those items but I used Ice Rocket tagging methods therefore they are not showing up in Technorati.
Overall, I do not mind this new search functionality and probably will use it to check my rank in these and other categories. I just hope that the new “most authoritative” ranking system holds up if bloggers attempt to over tag every post with Technorati tags.
