Splog, or spam blog, is at the forefront of the blogosphere again as indicated by the blog search engine IceRocket’s recent ban of Google Blogger accounts from its search index on Oct. 16. The issue has been mounting steadily, and Mark Cuban recently sounded off about Google’s free blog product, Blogger, on his blog post titled, “Get Your Blogspot Shit Together.”
I founded Splog Reporter a few months ago in an effort to help control the problem of splog clogging the blogosphere by taking the Web 2.0 approach of “empowering people” through providing “good willed” bloggers the opportunity to report URLs to Splog Reporter. Co-manager Jeff Johns and I developed a proprietary system behind Splog Reporter that determines splogs from regular blogs which marks them appropriately in our database.
It sounds like search engines are in need of help and the Splog Reporter system might be able to address this need.
