I wrote about blog worth on Somewhat Frank back on October 6, 2005 when the Weblogs, Inc./AOL deal was made and bloggers used it as a validation for how much their blogs are worth. Since then a post by Josh Hallett on October 26, 2005 pointed me Lee Hopkins who in turn linked me to this blog value calculator offered by the Business Opportunities Weblog. Additionally, you can get code that goes out on the fly and gets your blog’s worth based on the $564 per incoming link. I applaud the effort and use of the Technorati API to create this new calculator chicklet. I plan on putting the blog value calculator chicklet in the left rail of Somewhat Frank however, I have a few concerns with the accuracy of the calculation.
My first concern, is that I feel like Technorati’s link counts that are the base of this calculator have not been updating more then once every couple of weeks by Technorati. My inbound link count has not changed in over two weeks and I know that I have been pinged with TrackBacks in that timeframe. Therefore, I do not believe my link count is being accurately reported by Technorati thus making the blog value a little out of date. Secondly, does Technorati expire links for a blog's link count after a certain amount of time? That is something I do not know and would be curious to find out. Finally, are inbound links the true measure of blog value? Or are there other factors that are worth more? What do you think?
