I recently gave MyPimp a beta “Personal Information Manager” or PIM Portal a whirl as I signed up for an account. MyPimp offers a handful of free task and calendar management option that are similar to Outlook but all online so you can access them from any computer with an Internet connection. The features include:
• Online calendar and To-do list – to manage your day to day and future tasks and events.
• Alerts – that can be sent to your email or directly to your cell phone.
• Group calendars – a social networking option where you can join a group for your classes at school or create a group for a club, project team, or group of friends.
• Address book – allows you to link up with friends and colleagues so you always have each other's contact information and it will be updated when they change it.
The service launched on September 4, 2005 and is currently in beta. Overall, I thought MyPimp was easy to use. I also thought all of the features are similar to a client-based solution and could be used everyday to help manage life. However, right now I do not know if I would switch from my current Microsoft Outlook use to the MyPimp online version. I found two additional drawbacks with MyPimp are that they do not offer RSS feeds of your event calendar also they did not offer a import of your current Outlook contacts, thus making adding contacts a manual process. Currently, I think MyPimp needs to offer me a more definitive reason to adopt it for use. I understand everyone has different likes and dislikes, so give MyPimp a try if you are looking for a PIM option, and decide for yourself if it is right for you.
