There have been a number of recent viral videos from iFilms, to video podcasts, to the blogging platforms making video inclusion easy, however the big question is, can online video content generate revenue online? Of course it can! However, it now has become a little easier, as the recent start-up Revver can take online video and attach advertisements then split the profits from the ads with the video content producer. As a former independent short film maker, I find this service extremely enticing. Revver's tag-line sums up the concept as follows:
"Got video? Get paid!"
How will you get paid for your videos by Revver? Revver will take online video of pretty much anything from fighting an invisible Jedi knight to lip-syncing a boy band song like the recent Chinese Backstreet Boys video that has been circulating, and host it on their server adding an advertisement to the end of the clip. In addition, Revver will add a tracking tag to the clip so that video views can be counted. So basically, Revver keeps metrics on every video it adds advertisements to. You can publicize your clip on the Revver website, on your own website as well as by emailing it to others to view. Is this the Google Adsense of online video?
