Missile Fired At Plane Near LAX?

I read a report yesterday about a pilot who witnessed a missile or other surface to air projectile targeted at his airplane near LAX sometime last week. I just wondered why this story did not make bigger headlines. It sounds like it is still unclear as to what was shot at the plane however it was enough for the FBI to launch an investigation. Why have we barely heard about this incident?
