Thinking of ways to leverage Web 2.0 to empower your visitors as part of the Web 2.0 movement? Dion Hinchcliffe recently made a post on his blog where he said:
"mash-ups are just one aspect of Web 2.0 that can be used to add value to new or existing software. There are numerous ways this can be done, with varying levels of difficulty, that you can start incorporating right now to add the power and capabilities which successful Web 2.0 sites have been taking advantage of for years now. "
I think that it is important to understand Web 2.0 is more than just mashup applications. Dion goes on to list ten ways to incorporate Web 2.0 features into your products now. I think Dion does a great job in listing out some features which focus on allowing creativity with your offering while blending in Web 2.0 features. I have taken Dion's list and paraphrased it and added on a couple of additional items:
1.) Social community
2.) Editable content
3.) Expect unintended uses
4.) Solid user experience (less page loads)
5.) Syndicate with feeds
6.) Let users build your reputation
7.) User generated content
8.) Enable mashups
9.) Reuse other services, apps and technologies (i.e. Google Maps, Craigslist)
10.) Build in modules
11.) Keep it simple
12.) Educate your visitors
Can you think of any other Web 2.0 items that could be added to this list?
