With the baseball season on its way I decided I wanted to be able to express some of my thoughts related to the game and I did not think that Somewhat Frank was the most appropriate venue. So I launched a new blog called Ballpark Frank. I thought a second blog would be the perfect opportunity to gain the a little more knowledge of how WordPress.com is set up so I launched the Ballpark Frank using WordPress.com.
I found the that the WordPress.com blog platform is extremely intuitive and easy to set up. It offers a wide array of theme options. Though I would love to see more theme options available with the ability for additional customization of those themes too. This would enable you be more creative and own your blog's look and feel is the direction I would love to see WordPress.com go.
I happy to see the recent announcement that WordPress.com would be opening up its API to allow the ability for further customizations within the existing theme template rails by offering WordPress Widgets. I look forward to seeing the following new widget features when they become available:
1.) contextual advertising (Yahoo Publisher Network, Google Adsense, etc.)
2.) recent comments (coComments)
3.) photos (via Flickr)
4.) recent blog entries
5.) a blog tagcloud
Thus far I am happy with WordPress.com overall and the price is unbeatable. However, I would love to see some the enhancements I mentioned to truly place it in a class of its own among blog platforms.
Also thanks to Baseball Musings for welcoming me to the baseball blogging community. Be sure to check out the Ballpark Frank throughout the baseball season to take you out to the ballgame with warm glow of your computer screen.
