As I watched the season finale of Project Runway with my girlfriend (I swear it is her favorite show) I thought it would be an ideal time to explore the collaborative shopping community called Stylehive. Stylehive is a new online community where contributors can bookmark stores, designers, trends, and must-have products and share them with other community members. Stylehive is the vision of Internet entrepreneur Michael Carrier, Stylehive CEO to:
"...create a place where people that are into products and shopping could discover and connect with each other, to literally capture the excitement and energy in finding new things."
Stylehive allows you to join the community and offer up content by bookmarking it with a bookmarklet via your web browser. I tested it out by going to this post I did awhile back on the foam boat shoes called Crocs. In clicking the bookmarklet it opened a new window and captured all of the images that are on the page so that I could easily click and add them to my social bookmarks.
I entered tags, a price and then saved the bookmark. Saved bookmarks are added to your own personal Stylehive website which offers a breakdown of tags used and a syndication feed. My site can be viewed here: http://www.stylehive.com/somewhatfrank. Ironically, Stylehive even offered up a Project Runway store so I bookmarked it for my girlfriend.
I thought Stylehive was very well done and the bookmarklet was amazingly slick to use once I figured out how it works. Emily Chang recently posted on her blog with personal satisfaction for the design of Stylehive. I would have to say she should be patting herself on the back since Stylehive's offers a very clean and creative design. For more information on Stylehive check out its blog.
UPDATED: TechCrunch posted some analysis calling Stylehive "visually stunning." I agree, it looks pretty sweet! (April 20, 2006)
