Feedburner has made a move aimed to further strengthen its choke-hold grip on the feeds management industry by acquiring BlogBeat. BlogBeat is blog analytics tool similar to that of MeasureMap which was created by Adaptive Path and was sold to sold to Google. According to this post by FeedBurner COO, Steve Olechowski:
"Long story short, we have acquired Blogbeat. In our quest to provide our publishers with a comprehensive picture of how content is distributed and consumed, we liked the fact that Blogbeat uses the feed to gather additional information about the blog. We have been interested in expanding our combined site/feed view since FeedFlare got going some months ago, and Blogbeat will give us the ability to provide publishers with a more thorough statistics picture."
It sounds great! I cannot wait to see it integrated. Previously, BlogBeat was a pay service and it appears that with the acquisition it is going to now be free through FeedBurner. The acquisition should be good for bloggers and FeedBurner alike.
