Are you a celebrity news junkie? If so, you might want to check out Fafarazzi and put your celebrity tracking habits to use. Fafarazzi, a Massachusetts-based startup created by Eastland Media, offers place for celebrity news lovers to go head-to-head via celebrity fantasy sports leagues.
With Fafarazzi, users can select a ten celebrity roster and then any mention of that celebrity in the news gets you points. For example, if Paris Hilton is on your roster and is mentioned in the news then you get points. Fafarazzi makes it easy to join, draft or setup a league. You can then monitor celebrities and your team performance with RSS feeds and widgets for blogs, Facebook and MySpace. I have added one the "Todays Hottest Gossip" widget below.
I got a chance to talk with Chris Keller from Fafarazzi, as he demo'ed the product at TECH cocktail Boston. He mentioned their goal was to become the "place for fantasy leagues on the Web." So it sounds like they are going to look to duplicate Fafarazzi's success by creating leagues for other verticals or categories. They already have started by recently launching Dirt Locker.
Dirt Locker is a fantasy league which follows athletes and all of their publicity off the field. For example, if you had Michael Vick right now you probably would be ruling your league. Stay tuned to the Fafa Blog for future expansion into other fantasy league verticals.
