YourTrumanShow, the personal video diaries startup, has just launched, VideoMap, video discovery widget at the DEMO Conference in San Diego, California. Catering to artists and online personalities, YourTrumanShow, looks to cultivate discovery within its network by exposing its interesting video linking feature to other social network and the Web via VideoMap.
VideoMap can be placed and accessed by anyone on the Internet, in Facebook, YouTube, MySpace, YourTrumanShow or any other site. The VideoMap widget offers a graphical video relationship map, which lets you see who links to you and who you link to as well as the video content you have both collected and may wish to share. With VideoMap you can simply jump from topic to topic and from diary to diary. Check out the screen-shots of the product below.
The VideoMap offers users the ability to customize the hub for their own collection of clips from anywhere on the Internet. When the user clicks on a friend, that friend’s collection appears in the tray. VideoMap allows users to search, share and collect videos by topic and by who has viewed a particular video. A sidebar appears which makes suggestions based on the relevant topics followed which could be used by YourTrumanShow to serve relevant advertisements. VideoMap gets smarter over time as it adds additional data via its viral distribution.
Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of YourTrumanShow and I think VideoMap is an interesting application but it blows my mind how far widgets have come. I know it is not cheap ($20K) to launch at DEMO so it seeing widgets like VideoMap launch at DEMO definitely validates their value in this attention-based Web economy.
