Have you ever wanted to do speed dating but didn't want to actually attend an speed dating event? Now you can do it from the comfort of your home as WooMe is looking to take speed dating online. WooMe, a startup which I saw demo at TechCrunch40, has moved into a private alpha phase and I got a chance to check it out.
WooMe tries to take advantage of the short attention span people might have while using online dating sites. By leveraging the use of web cams WooMe creates five minute speed dating sessions which enable users to connect and thumbs up or thumbs down the users on the other end of the web cam. Users can set up sessions or directly connect with individual users via WooMe. The interface kind of reminds me other another site in the online dating space called iminlikewithyou.com. WooMe might not be targeting just the online dating scene as the platform could be used as a tool at business dinners, weddings or other events to better connect a number of people very quickly. It could be a very promising offering. VentureBeat offers some additional insight and perspective.
