Do you often travel alone? This can happen to anyone so instead of rolling solo you can now connect with new people in your travel destination. YowTrip offers a social network for travelers that are traveling alone to meet up with other travelers and locals in the same area at the same time.
Founded in September 2007 by Brazil-born Felipe Coimbra in Sacramento, California, YowTrip enables travelers to share your travel dates and destinations so that other users can contact you and potentially connect. I am headed to Chicago in a few weeks for TECH cocktail Chicago 6 so I will post that in the Chicago. Like any social network, users can create profiles which act as travel journals with the ability to upload videos, photos and write blog posts. I can then search these profiles for travel needs for a particular trip which include, a travel companion, local resident, a place to stay, etc. Since I am really not looking for anything from my trip to Chicago I opted to leave it blank. However, I could search for other travelers, etc and connect with them through YowTrip. Check out the YowTrip demo if you are interested in finding out more.
I use the blogosphere, Facebook, Flickr and other networks for aid me with connecting with people if I am visiting the area,
however if these methods don't seem to fit the bill YowTrip is here
to help. Overall, I think YowTrip is a worthy idea and offers a great way to meet and share your experiences with other interesting travelers rather than rolling solo (as long as those other travelers you meet are not creepy).
