Are you a Scrabble fan? Scrabble, the popular word game trademarked by Hasbro, Inc. has been the topic of debate recently as an online alternative was created to operate as a Facebook application called Scrabulous. Scrabulous was created by Rajat Agarwalla and Jayant Agarwalla within the last six months already has over 600,000 active daily users. Amazing! According to an ABC News report, Hasbro is outraged about the creation of the copycat game and as AllFacebook reports they are trying to force Facebook to remove it. Am I missing something?
I am sitting here scratching my head thinking somewhat frankly:
"Hasbro the Scrabble gods just handed you a gift (Scrabulous) and you want to turn it off?"
Hasbro
currently has NO comparable online game. I think they should graciously reach out Scrabulous to ask them
what it would take to purchase the application or work so kind of agreement out. However, it does not appear
they are going to take that approach and instead will be paying their
lawyers to try and muscle Facebook to shut the service down. While Rajat and Jayant probably should have gotten permission before creating the Scrabble game they also were much better off asking forgiveness. I think Hasbro has a pretty simple decision to make. I just hope they make the right one.
