I am a big fan of news aggregators like Digg, Reddit and Mixx as they bubble up interesting content from around the Web. Hubdub, a UK-based startup, is launching at DEMO08 to put a new spin on the traditional news aggregator landscape by creating a predictive marketplace for news. Hubdub will look to leverage the value of user-generated news aggregation with the accuracy and stir of prediction markets.
Hubdub will enable anyone to create a prediction market around a specific story. For example, an article about the 2008 Presidential election could motive a user to ask a simple yes/no question, Will Hilliary Clinton win the election? Thus a predictive market is born and the rest of the community can weigh in. Hubdub has also created a currency to stimulate your gambling gene and as you look to turn the wager if you were correct. The biggest Hubdub winners will be showcased on a leader board which will be display various categories like Technology, Politics and Sports.
