For all you developers out there that like to create mashups, there is currently a developer contest being held with cash prizes called the Open AIM Developers Challenge. All you have to do is create a mashup that leverages the Open AIM APIs and submit it to dev.aol.com. There will be 29 winners with prize allocations from $10K to $500. Scoring is based on a number of criteria but 20 percent is based on usage so the sooner you get a mashup submitted the better your chances are to win.
There have already been a number of great mashup submissions and I wanted to point out a few that I thought were interesting:
1.) IM Loud - Speaks your IM's out loud.
2.) IM Whiteboard - draw simultaneously with any of your buddies.
3.) Translation with Retyper - retype your instant message, which was typed in wrong language.
4.) IM Remote - Remote access via IM.
5.) Feed Reader in IM - Read all your favorites like SOMEWHAT FRANK, TECH cocktail and more.
6.) IM Spellchecker Bot - spell a word and send it to the bot and it will send you back the correct spelling which is great for people like me that do not spell very well.
Check out the full details on contest submission and get your mashup in ASAP as the deadline is May 5, 2008. Good luck and happy coding.
