Taking a page out the Netflix and Amazon playbook, outbrain, a New York-based startup, officially launched yesterday to offer a ratings and recommendations widget for content. With outbrain bloggers, news, media, magazines, rss readers and other publishers/aggregators can add a rating and personalized content recommendation widget to their blogs and sites easily and free.
outbrain was founded in 2006 by Yaron Galai and Ori Lahav. The company is backed by leading VC's, and is based in New York with R&D located in Israel. Their goal is to make the best personalized recommendations of blog and news content. The outbrain widget is setup to help publisher reposition their content but also helps readers find additional content on the Web. Other similar services that come to mind include FeedHub which I covered previously and AideRSS which I also covered previously on SOMEWHAT FRANK.
The outbrain ratings widget will appear as follows on blogs and other publishers sites.
