Last weekend I was down in Austin, Texas at South by Southwest Interactive and I was feeling creative and wanted to create a new experience like one I have never had at the event. I believe that my happiness is derived from my experiences so I decided to create a new holiday called Johnny Cash Blackout Sunday.
It may seem a little 'out there' to some but really my point in creating this new holiday was purely to bring joy to myself and others by having some fun on a normal Sunday at SXSW Interactive. I even went as far as to ask my friend Gary Vaynerchuk during his SXSW keynote (while dressed in full Johnny Cash Blackout Sunday gear - watch here) what his favorite experience has been since he started video blogging in 2007. I know I have had quite a few wonderful memories since starting SOMEWHAT FRANK in 2005, TECH cocktail in 2006 and at AOL since 2006 and Johnny Cash Blackout Sunday at SXSW 2009 is just another one experience to chalk up, check off and remember forever. Stay tuned for more real-life and online experiences coming soon.
Johnny Cash Blackout Sunday honored Johnny Cash by wearing black and a number of others including Jen Consalvo, Meghan Asha and more that also embraced the movement. This is how it started as Peter LaMotte, Jen Consalvo and I searched for black gear and the video (above) captures us taking on Austin with the blackout mission in mind as episode 67 on SOMEWHAT FRANK.
